Aga Khan Foundation’s Holistic Response in Syria

From supporting climate-friendly agriculture in drought-prone areas, to fostering gender equality in entrepreneurship and jobs, and providing educational opportunities for young people, AKF’s efforts in Syria go far beyond humanitarian assistance – though AKF also provided food baskets to nearly 47,000 people last year. Mohannad Obaido, CEO of AKF Syria, will join us to discuss the variety of ways that AKF is addressing key challenges in Syria to support a stable, sustainable future for the country. The conversation will be moderated by Shaiza Damji Nurani, Vice-Chair of AKF USA’s National Committee.
The AKF-funded Community-Based Solar Energy (CBSE) project began operating off-grid solar power systems in December 2025 for four villages in Tartous Governorate's Alkhawabi area, providing sustainable electricity to improve living conditions in these underserved rural communities.
